This Saturday we will take a bus out to Little Valley. Please meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 12:30pm with A-Ls duty pack
Saturday was definitely cooler and wetter than usual for a harrier outing. Some may say there was a failure from the local weather god.
But sometimes the weather gods gives us a taste of what the weather could be like, on all those other harrier days ,which we take for granted.
So about 21 mad men and mad women ventured out to the Lower Manorburn dam for an outing under cool, high humidity conditions (light rain eh )
Photos give some idea of the conditions. I’ll let you in on a secret ,one of these photos was not taken on Saturday, can you guess which one ?
The walkers split into several groups , a group of 3 wandered down the roads , concerned they could slip over on the local tracks.
4 W3 walkers explored the tracks wandering around the trees to overlook the dam wall.
A group of just 5 W2 walkers explored the new track Joe has been clearing above the dam , before dropping down to the shoreline track.
It was a bit wet underfoot and a little slippery, but with care ,no mishaps occurred. I did tell the walker out in front to let out a blood curling scream if they slipped off the track into the dam , so the rest of us would know not to follow in their footsteps.
The remaining W1 walkers combined the tracks of the W2s and W3 groups. So it was an early finish and cuppa. There was some speculation as to what would happen when a Mini tried coming down a wet muddy steep track. The driver deciding not to continue down ,but also unable to turn around.
It was left to the on call vehicle recovery garage to rescue the mini. For some reason they did not trust the harriers
Saturday evening saw 36 members venture to the Senior Citizens rooms for a roast pork meal , interspersed with a general knowledge quiz
And birthday cake for president Mike. Four teams ended up in a tie for quiz honours , with a tie breaker question to decide eventual winner
Members seemed happy with their Routeburn walk , and Kitty has shared her Chat GPT version of their walk.
This Saturday we head on out to Matangi station in Little Valley. Meet at 12:30pm to catch the bus, chances are the bus will drop groups off along the way out. Can’t promise sunshine , there will be some clouds , but will not be as wet and cold as last week
Hope to see you there
