Waikerikeri beckoned

This Saturday we head for Klifden Station in the Ida Valley. Please meet corner Thompson & Walton streets at 12 noon to catch the bus out with M-Z duty pack this week.

Last Saturday we had 31 members head on up the Waikerikeri Valley -( Wai = water, kerikeri =rushing , so rushing or fast flowing water.)
Just 2 keen W1 walkers headed up the Lilico spur track up and up the hill and then returned down again
And around 4 W3 walkers took in some of the lower level tracks in the area.

Which left a big group of 25 W1 & W2 walkers to climb up onto the ridgeline , and head back down the Waikerikeri valley beside the cows and swedes
After a week of low cloud and no sunshine , members were keen to stay in the sunshine , so went out and back , instead of dropping down into the valley and road and into the shade.

It was a good turnout , considering we had another group of 14, trampling the Routeburn track.
From the photo from the Harris Saddle , it looks like they had a terrible time ,blue skies and calm reflective conditions. And I didn’t get any calls from the rescue centre all weekend.

Club dinner this Saturday Senior Citizens rooms Skird Street Alexandra -doors open 6pm ,meal at 7pm , Bring your own drinks.
If you have not yet paid ,please put $35 into harrier account or Barrie will be demanding cash as soon as you set a foot in the door. A quiz will be held , so throw a pen in your pocket
Any late additions or cancellations to Barrie by Wednesday at the latest, on 021 445 918

Please meet midday for bus to Klifden station with M-Zs duty pack. There is rain forecast for later in the week ,but should be ok on Saturday.
However ,likely to be muddy underfoot so bring walking boots rather than shoes this week. We have had issues in the past getting to this farm , so stay tuned for any late changes , as in the past we have had rogue snow falls early in winter ,late in winter ,bridge closure.

That’s about it for another week. The sun is still shining ,so all is good. Hope to see you in the Ida Valley on Saturday (not just the Ida Bar )
