A magical Mystery tour

This Saturday will be the last day of the Alexandra harrier & Walkers club 2024 season. It will be a local walk from the Ice Inline car park ,followed by lunch at the Alexandra Bowling club.
For those wanting a longer walk ,meet at the carpark at 10:30am and organise a walk from there. Everyone else meet at 11:30am and organise some local walks from there. Be back by around 1pm , with lunch being served about 1:30pm.

Create a little mystery , and you will encourage folk out of the woodwork. Or so it seemed as there was only 1 or 2 seats to spare on the bus.
The bus started heading toward Clyde , so St. Bathans or Naseby were ruled out. As we went past Deadmans Point bridge ,Queenstown and Arrowtown were ruled out. A swing into the car park by the Luggate Bridge revealed our destination. It was warm at Alex when we left and still warm on the bus. But there was definitely a breeze blowing once off the bus.(that’s a definite understatement )

All groups headed upstream on the Newcastle track ,shadowing the Clutha river . The W2 pack leader seemed to be leading from right at the back of everyone. The W3 pack leader seemed to be amongst the W2s. In fact it was interesting to observe how the groups all intermingled at the start of the walk , but as the walk progressed , they all fell back into their natural groupings. It was one of those there and back outings , so as the hour mark came up , they started to return to the red bridge. Although i have to say , the bridge did not look particularly red to me.

Some kayakers were observed flying down the swiftly flowing Clutha , but we were left wondering if they could actually make any headway if they had to go upstream.
Back for afternoon tea and it was found that billy the boiler really needs some repairs or replacement as, only 2 teapots of water left when we returned. Glenda had baked Barb Hall a cake to celebrate her 70th birthday , saying she had spent nearly half her life in the harrier club.
I do know that Stevie Tohill has been in the club for 50 years, longer than the club has been going 1974-2024. (The club officially created in 1977 )
No photos sent in this week so we will have to make do.

So the end is near, of this I’m certain. Lunch at the Bowling club. You should have let Barrie know by now if you are going or not. By this stage , you will need to plead your case to Barrie.

Coming up , a pre Christmas get together at Ida for drinks and nibbles ,early December – email will be sent out much closer to the time.
And March will be the AGM , where we will need to ratify an updated constitution to comply with new Incorporated Societies act .
It would also be good to see some fresh faces on the committee.

A warm day has been promised for closing day ,so remember your sunhat and i will see you either on the walk ,or at lunch.
