Alexandra end of Roxburgh Gorge this week

Revised start time W1 walkers

This week we will be doing a local walk along the business persons track Clyde to Alexandra. W1 walkers to meet at 12 noon to carpool to Clyde .Everyone else meet at 1pm at the Boat Ramp carpark at the end of Dunorling Street with M-Zs duty pack. The W1 walkers will car pool out to the Clyde bridge and walk back to Alex. The W2s & W3s will head upstream from the carpark to Ngapara pools area and return.

Last Saturday dawned cloudy and foggy again. The weatherman was forecasting a high of 12 degrees but mid morning changed this to just 2 degrees . The local weather god struggling to deliver for the harriers , but as we set off , patches of blue sky started to appear before that big yellow thing in the sky made a welcome reappearance.

The W1s set off following Joe’s map onto Mantangi MTB park ,  up the rock garden, following some steep country .They had been donated wrist bands for the day and had to hand them back after the walk.

Surprise, surprise , as a couple of members were found  still wearing them at the pub later on. The group was warned of some steep country , but it can’t have been too bad , as no one was complaining of it being worse than a Peter Dymock shortcut up this hill.

Meantime ,the W3s wandered down the cycle track on the right bank of Lake Roxburgh, making good time as the W2s on the left bank finally caught sight of them across the river. The W2s looped back up the gully before dropping back down to Graveyard Gully , before returning via the road rail bridge. All groups back on time for afternoon tea, but not sure why the tables were set up in the shade of the trees and not out in the sunshine.

Afternoon tea in Centennial park was shared by the Westpac rescue helicopter , but it must have been out in the rain , as it had shrunk down in size to not much more than a model.

This Saturday we should be clear of fog , but there is a possibility of a shower , so stick your head out the door before deciding if you need a jacket or brolly.

Hope to see you all down by the riverside
