Fraser Weir, Hawksburn Road

This Saturday we will meet at 1:00pm,corner Walton & Thompson streets. for a local outing down the Roxburgh Gorge from Alexandra with A-Ls duty pack

Last Saturday had that hoar frost feeling , of freezing temperatures and fog. Club president Mike was keen to advise everyone when he left Omakau it was fine and sunny ,but coming over Tiger hill he could see the fog looming ahead.
Despite the cool conditions we still had around 40 members turn up for a walk from the base of the Clyde lookout Hawksburn road.

Several W3 walkers headed on down the River track , not seeing much sun until they were heading back to afternoon tea.

The W1s and W2 walkers all set off up the Fraser Weir road. The larger W1 group turned off the road onto tracks leading onto Hawksburn road at the top of the ridge. They found a track so they didn’t have to go all the way to the sheep yards. Sending in a photo of the group clearly under blue skies and sunshine. Obvious from the photos this week how happy some were to see the sun.

Meantime the W2 walkers carried on up Fraser Weir road to the pipeline syphon. They eventually got out of the fog , but it was still frosty underfoot. They returned following the pipeline until the track ran out. Where do we go now ? Follow the goat track. The group were not too sure the pack leader knew where he was going through the Matagouri and briar ,and it was only a small cliff. Eventually getting back down to the road. Pack leader claimed he was just filling in some time so they were not back too early. I can say that if you just went up and down the road , it would be a forgettable walk. But exploring new country is what makes memories.

Everyone made it back down for a cuppa , but that cuppa didn’t seem to stay hot for long. Not many made it to Monteiths for a drink and chips afterwards , as many were saving themselves for the mid winter dinner at the Senior citizens
Around 40 turned up for the dinner and our thoughts go out to Alison who organized the dinner , and then couldn’t make due to illness.

Everyone appeared to enjoy their meal , which was followed by a musical interlude from Joe Stevens and Gordon , singing a tune or two from days gone by.
This was followed by the Chase , I mean a quiz , with 20 questions needing answers presented by Jo and Joe, with teams of 2 or 3 members. No one managed a perfect 20 out of 20. The nearest we got was 17, with one member saying she didn’t know anything , so we guess it was Joe who provided all the answers for that team.

I have had a request from Amanda , looking for someone who can show her all about Nordic walking, so either catch Amanda next outing , or reply to me and I can put you in contact with her.
Joe has mapped out a walk for the keen W1 walkers , it does contain some steep country ,so be warned if you want to go with that group. It will be on Matangi Station so Joe has organized some wrist bands for those who want to do this walk.
The W2s and W3s will head down river ,W2s left bank , W3s right bank.

There is a possibility of a shower on Saturday , but hopefully will be after harriers. Hope to see you all there
