Conroys Dam

Hello again. Email a little later this week, thought I should wait and see if any great pronouncements from the executive  team

Central Otago delivered another fine autumn day for the Harriers to explore the Conroys dam area. About 10 members headed out in the morning, heading up to one tree hut ,before climbing  up to Castle Rock for lunch ,before a leisurely descent back to the dam. Another 30 or so members turned up at 1pm for a wander. 2 groups headed up Conroys creek , one group crossed the river up to the lizard sanctuary ,then  up to the old hotel .They  then descended back down to the creek and up to the Chinese miner’s hut and gold workings  ,then followed the creek back downstream to the dam. The other group did this track in reverse. The W3s kept to lower elevations around the dam. Rumours of crossing the dam ,or maybe the creek as damp feet  were on offer.

The 3 runners crossed the creek below the dam, running on the west side of the dam. They then sought out the track to the lizard sanctuary ,however instead of heading up to the pylon track first ,they tried to tack a shortcut across the gully. Poor Merv looked like Brer Rabbit caught in the briar patch.  And then they were haring off again.

Plenty of pictures sent in this week ,but one does not belong . Can you guess which one ? Yes ,it’s the one of a cuppa. Due to some miscommunications in the committee , no one brought the club trailer along , so no cup of tea or coffee after the walk. Still plenty of food from the A-Ls and the water in Conroys dam was left untouched , so they can’t have been too thirsty.

This Saturday we head out to Little Valley , to catch a ride in the bus, meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 1pm ,with M-Zs duty pack this week. The W1s are going to walk to Little Valley , departing at 1pm.   The W2s will get kicked off the bus half way out. The remainder will stay on the bus to the woolshed and walk / run from there. Please stay on tracks pack leaders advise, as there may be hunters in the area on Saturday.

Committee news

Subscription is $40. Outing fee is $5 members , $10 guests. This fee includes raffle ticket and covers transport costs, gas, tea coffee etc. It helps to cover club operating costs.

Some have asked why don’t we use club money in bank. Reply is that would last less than 10 years and then the club would be broke.

The $5 fee can be paid in cash each week or an amount can be deposited in club account to cover several weeks. This is an honesty based system, no one will be checking who pays what each week.
