Opening Day

Greetings all ,the 2023 harrier season is now underway. Around 40ish folk turned up for a local outing on Saturday (that’s total numbers ,not average age ! ). After a warm welcome from club president Mike Kotkamp ,members headed out for a walk or run. The local weather god delivered a fine autumnal day for the harriers. Yes ,we still have 2 runners and both made it back ok.

The W3 walkers were obviously on a river walk, as we left them behind at the shaky Bridge across the Maunherika River. However the photo supplied would suggest they were on one of the Clutha river tracks. The W2 walkers had the largest pack of about 18 walkers, heading down stream on the Doctors Point track ,before looping up Goat Gully to return back down to Graveyard Gully. Which leaves the W1 walkers ,where did they go ? Asking some of them, they replied they had to walk up a very steep hill , just slightly less steep than a cliff. From the photos I would suggest along Tucker Hill. The photo of the Alpine flower is supposed to suggest just how high they climbed.

All were back on time for afternoon tea.

Now to some reminders.

Be prepared for harrier outings ,you never know where we will end up. So eat something before harriers or bring a muslie bar or something if you miss lunch , stay hydrated- bring some water.
Bring a windproof jacket in case it turns cold and if you use a walking stick , remember to bring it along.

Subscriptions are $40 ,pay into harrier account 031733 0004935 00 and put your name down as a reference , to make it less of a guessing game for our treasurer.

Outings are now $5 ,this covers raffle draw as well as transport costs ,whether that be bus or car pooling. You can either pay cash on the day, or pay into bank account ,weekly or several outings at a time. This will be a honesty based system, the treasurer will not be chasing up who paid what each week.

Duty packs –alternate weeks , surnames beginning with A-L or M-Z. Responsible for loading cups ,water ,afternoon tea gear onto bus, bring along plate of food , put out tables ,clean up afterwards.

Photos if you would like to share photos on club website or weekly email, they can be sent to photos@alexharriers.co.nz Do not get upset if photos not always sent out on email ,some weeks there are none, other weeks dozens.

This weekend is Easter ,so no official outing. However if feeling like a walk ,Barrie has offered to lead anyone who turns up – astray. Meet 1pm corner Walton & Thompson streets

Saturday 15 April will be car pool out to Conroys Dam . We will send a reminder out next week

Note to new members –do not always believe everything you read in these emails , sometimes the truth gets stretched somewhat. However I try not to mislead on times and places we are travelling to

May see you Saturday
