Omeo Gully this week

This Saturday you will need to have an early lunch, or else pack a sandwich for the bus journey to Arrowtown. Please meet 12:00 noon corner Walton & Thompson streets to catch the bus with M-Zs duty pack this week.

This past Saturday we had around 40 members turn up for a walk around the Omeo Gully area.

The club seems to be gaining an international reputation ,as Greta visited from Scandinavia.  Of course it may be possible she was visiting friends and doing other stuff, but I am sure the harrier exploits are a great attraction in their own right. I guess Barb must be in training for Santa’s sleigh , as she appeared with antlers  at afternoon tea.

The W3 walkers were a select group of just 2 ,led by life member Steve Tohill who explored some of the flatter areas in the gully. The W1s had a group in the mid teens who headed up into the hills. Reports came back of following a track up that eventually petered out. Oh we just carry on up the hill.( a peter shortcut ) By all accounts it was a never ending hill, Climb up a bit, there’s another bit, keep climbing. However they all survived and made it back down again  for a cuppa. The  W2s had a group in the low 20s that went up the gully ,before heading uphill. Were they heading for Prophets Rock ? Who knows  , but I do know some were  struggling with the climb uphill. Lungs getting a good work out as well as dodgy knees and bodies not getting any younger. .They eventually swung around to complete a bit of a circle down to the valley floor. They didn’t even need to catch a horse to make it back.

So we head for the autumnal display over Arrowtown area this Saturday with some sunshine booked in for our harrier  outing. Hope to see you there.

PS since I have changed my email address ,some have found their harrier emails are not going into their inbox. Check your spam or junk folders for it. (that’s if you get this message )
