Greetings everyone
This Saturday we will be a bit closer to home at Omeo Gully. Meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 1:00pm ,to carpool out with A-Ls duty pack this week.
On Saturday there was once again a turnout in the high 40s , to explore the Olrig Station and Ophir area. About 14 walkers made the long trek from Olrig to Ophir , many commenting
on the favourable weather conditions this year, one of the reasons for bringing this outing forward from mid winter.
Just under 10 members decided to ride their mountain bikes to Ophir. Just 2 headed up Tiger hill ,managing to keep ahead of any lurking big cats. The remainder followed Jo out but some were complaining it was more than the 38km indicated.
The bikers were last ones back to Olrig , so perhaps they had trouble getting past the Chatto Creek pub. A couple were keen to put their bikes on the bus for that last push home.
Bus driver Graham led a smaller group of W3 walkers in from Ophir to meet the W1 walkers.
There were around 17 W2 walkers who went along the rail trail to the bridge, where they cut off the trail to go overland to the Olrig Ophir track. As the front of the pack came over the top of a hill ,they startled a stag and hind having a rest.
The walkers were spoilt by the farmer ,who had put out some chairs to rest on and have their cuppa in the sunshine. I heard there were some tasty Feijoa muffins ,but I never saw them. Perhaps the baker kept half them at home for supper.
Weekend away trip –last year a group headed in to Mt Aspiring for a walk somewhere different ,even if it took 3 attempts as earlier dates were beset by heavy rain.
Anyone with suggestions on where they could go to this year for a weekend trip away can contact committee members or send email to info@alexharriers.co.nz
That’s about it for this week , a bit of cloud and sunshine have been booked in for Saturday .Hope to see you there
