Awesome Arrowtown

Hi everybody
This Saturday we head to the Lower Manorburn dam area. Please meet 1:00pm corner Walton & Thompson streets to car pool out ,with those with surnames in the A-L range duty pack this week.

So what went on this past Saturday. Well surprisingly it was not a full bus heading to Arrowtown. Although a handful did make their own way over there. The W2s got off at the Arrow junction , taking in the river track. Once again a large group who managed to avoid crashing into cyclists and folk walking their dogs. They did manage to witness a young chap who drove into the river through a ford, but then went upstream of the ford and managed to get his car stuck on a rock. A lesson learnt ,I suspect.

Well ,despite the bus not being full, we did get a full turnout. The W3s wandered down the river track, meeting up with the W2s. We also encountered a couple on their mountain bikes, heading somewhat further afield. As we did not see them again I hope they have turned back by now.
We even had a couple of runners this week , who headed up Tobins track , and then along New Chum track , taking them along Glencoe station, before dropping down onto the Macetown track.

The W1s followed a similar path ,maintaining a tradition on Arrowtown outings , that at least one group will be back late. As for the autumnal colours, I think they would have been better 2 or 3 weeks ago. Leaves dropping at lower elevations, but still a bit of colour higher up.

There were heard some rumblings about not much afternoon tea there. So a reminder , duty pack means bring a plate , and getting back on time ensures there is afternoon tea there.
But also remember if you are back early , it does not mean you start afternoon tea early .Committee member should advise what time to be back by and afternoon tea starts.
Someone has already sent in a photo of Lower Manorburn dam , I guess by Saturday it will be past it’s best also.

We should have another fine day for Manorburn this Saturday. I am back on call for work this week, but hope to make it out for local outing.

See you there

Gary
