Hello once again
This Saturday we head to Little Valley. Please meet corner Walton & Thompson streets with A-Ls duty pack this week. W1s long walk 12km ,meet at 12 midday. You will car pool part way out. The bus will drop you off at your cars on the return journey. Everyone else bus will depart at 1:00pm. It is important that everyone stays on Matangi Station only, stay clear of houses ,sheds and other farms.
Apologies to those who did not get a late email last Friday changing venue. It was a great conspiracy by Microsoft to hide email in spam or junk email folder. No we do not know why Tuesday’s email went into inbox, but Friday went into junk folder. Well , after weeks of fine Saturday’s we got a cold damp day , with only 19 members crazy enough to head out. Makes us all appreciate those fine days even more .
A call was made late Friday to change venue from the Ida Valley (good call as snow did fall in Omakau Ida Valley area Saturday afternoon –see photo ). So decision was made to change venue to Bannockburn, Felton Road. Members of the executive then made the decision that Felton road area would be slippery and muddy ,so the bus went to Bannockburn inlet instead.
The decision was then made to make it a shorter walk , so members were not out in the damp cold conditions for too long. Just 2 walking groups ,4 in the W3s who headed along the Lake Dunstan trail for Carrick winery. They didn’t stop there though ,but carried on before returning to the bus. The other group started off following the same path , before Peter led a group up a road beside Akura winery ,before turning onto a farm track to Bannockburn and return. A smaller group stuck to the Lake Dunstan trail , before also looping back to the bus. And I guess a number of members were like the cat ,staying inside where it was warm.
So it was an earlier appearance at Monteiths than normal , catching sight of Jill Paulin’s walking group enjoying a coffee or winter warmer at the pub.
The club’s mid year dinner has been set for 13 July ,cost likely to be $35-$45 , venue still to be confirmed.
We would also like to acknowledge Steve Tohill. He started running with the winter section of the Alexandra Athletics club in 1974 , before it split off to form the Alexandra Harrier club in 1977.
So Steve has been running and walking with the club for 50 years. Well done that man !
Hopefully the weather will be some what better than last weekend.
Hope to see you in the valley
Gary
