This Saturday we are going to Como Villa / Earnscleugh Tailings. Meet at 1pm at Thompson Street Corner to carpool out to Earnscleugh. Remember it’s Anzac Day! The Duty pack this week is M – Z. See the Harrier website for the responsibilities of the Duty Pack. Primarily these involve bringing lots of food, setting up the trestles, and tidying up afterwards.
Last Saturday the Club went by bus to Klifden Station. The sun was shining and the ground was dry for a change. Other years it has been quite boggy in places. There were thunderstorms and rain elsewhere in the Country, but not in the Ida Valley. When we arrived there appeared to be a heavily laden pear tree near where the bus parked, however when we left a lot of those pears seemed to have disappeared and people were seen to be leaving with bulging pockets. The Station has just changed hands so this may have been our last visit to Klifden. The owners had already moved out when we got there. Some members might wish that the new owners will let us visit again in the future, but those who don’t like their hills quite so vertical might not.
This week at the Earnscleugh Tailings Doc rangers may be on hand to check the bulging pockets of Harriers suspected of removing stones and other heritage items from this protected historic site. You can steal pears, but not stones!
School holidays might have accounted for numbers being low last Saturday or it could have been the memory of the hills at Klifden. They haven’t got any flatter in the past year. Harriers seemed to enjoy themselves any way as you can see from the above photos. The President managed to capture the group shot on his third attempt. Unfortunately, the first two tries only caught pictures of the rock outcrops behind the camera! Does the camera need a service or the camera operator need retraining?
Hope to see everyone this Saturday, I’ll put in a good word for some sunshine.
See you there,
Gary
