It’s a long walk to Bendigo

This Saturday we take a break from Harriers for the Alexandra Blossom Festival. Saturday week, 4 October ,will be Alexandra airport and I will send a reminder out next week.
On Saturday the harriers travelled to the Bendigo reserve near Tarras. Just 5 members decided to tackle the Kanuka Loop walk ,led by Allen Hansen. Distance anywhere between 10-18km depending on who you ask.

All went well around the track until Allen suggested a shortcut. Climbing up a hill ,scrambling over rocks and then facing scrubby bush to get through. Muttering broke out, Allen is just like Peter Dymock ,takes us on a shortcut clambering over rocks ,then you have to fight your way through scrub . What is it with our pack leaders ? Why can’t a shortcut be flat and clear ?

Meantime a group of about 33 members car pooled up to Bendigo at 12 noon. They gathered into 2 groups of 17 and 16 and basically took in the same tracks , with one lot faster than the other . It was down around the Aurora track ,looping round onto the Matilda Battery and on to Welshtown.
They were back early for afternoon tea at 2:30pm. So the long walkers were not impressed getting in just after 3pm , to find many of the other harriers already travelling home. Just goes to show ,that with getting a hard time for being late back (30-60 minutes ) , some will ensure they are back early and the lure of an early cuppa is too hard to resist.

Treasurer John will reimburse drivers who took their cars to Bendigo , but it may not happen for a week or two.

Closing day 18 October – lunch has been booked in for “The Station” in Boundary road , Alexandra .To ensure you get lunch ,make sure Barrie has your name on his list 021 445 918. Cost of $37 pay into club account 031733 0004935 00 and remember to put your name and lunch down as reference. Saturday 11 October will be the last day to add or remove your name from list.

That’s it for this week, take some time out to smell the flowers and we will see you next week
