This Saturday we head for Cairnmuir – Cornish Point. For those wanting a big walk meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 9am. Harrier trailer will be at corner to leave afternoon tea in. Carpool out in 4wds to top of Clyde Lookout road and start of Cairmuir track. This is a 21km walk at high elevation 500-1100m So a good level of fitness required, warm clothing ,windproof layer as well as lunch and water. Everyone else meet at 12:30pm to catch the bus to Cornish Point ,M-Zs duty pack. Option of walking in to meet long walkers , or Brewery Creek Terraces ,or other Bannockburn trails.
Hmmm those photos don’t look like German Hills . Or Bannockburn for that matter.
Plans for Saturday’s walk quickly changed. German Hills was cancelled due to hunters shooting on the property .Plan B had us heading for Bannockburn Sluicing’s which got dropped off the calendar last month. All was going well until the bottom of the Clyde hill , with the bus not changing down through the gears.
Flashback 30 years ago when Harrier bus started dying , at least no big bangs this time round. Will we have to get off and push the bus ? After coming to a stop , managed to get bus going in 1st,2nd then 3rd , but that was it. Made it to top of hill and got off the road. Well done John. Replacement bus called up , but decided it was time for Plan C , a Clyde area walk.
The W3s headed down hill ,over the bridge and along to the Weatherall creek carpark near the rowing club.
The W2s checked out the lookout, dropping down the track to Clyde. On to Miners Lane and across the bridge, before carrying on to Lake Dunstan Trail , before looping back to the car park. Across the Lake the W1 walkers could be seen descending down to Clyde. With such a fine day , the Dunstan trail was busy with cyclists and runner
Meantime the W1 walkers stayed to help move gear over to replacement bus ,before Ewan led them down some forgotten steps (somewhat overgrown ) before checking out the Giant Clyde Eagle. There was a sneaky photo of the W2s across the Lake , before making their way over themselves.
A handful carrying on to the Lake Dunstan trail to get their full entitlement of a harrier walk.
This Saturday all roads lead to Cornish Point. For the 21km walk along the top of the Cairnmuir range , meet at 9am to carpool in 4WDs to top of Clyde lookout hill and start of track. Everyone else will meet at 12:30pm for a bus ride to Cornish Point.
Good dusting of snow on Cairnmuir range this morning but with fine weather forecast through to the weekend , should hopefully be clear for Saturday.
So with a fine day booked in ,hope to see you all there
