This Saturday the harriers will make attempt number 2 to get to German Hills / Merino Ridges in the Ida Valley.
Please meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 12 midday , with A-Ls duty pack this week.
Saturday was cloudy with light rain at times. At least we would say rain. If in Auckland or the West Coast would probably just say high humidity.
So there were a couple of showers of light drizzle, just enough to be slightly unpleasant and caused a couple of short delays as members either added more layers of clothing , or removed some layers as the drizzle came and went.
Plans to explore Merino ridges were changed when reports of snow in the area came through in the morning , so outings were swapped and it was the Doctors Point track on the menu. A good turnout of about 40 members resulted , including 2 runners who took off in another direction to the walkers.
All walking groups headed on down the track ,before looping back.
The 16 or so W1 walkers carried on down towards Butchers Point before Peter Dymock led some on a shortcut ? Variation ?
Usually Peter’s side tracks result in mutters of climbing up cliffs or through briar and matagouri , but this week there was actually a thank you Peter for the walk.
The remaining W1s turned back ,with a couple returning along the river track , the remaining heading up Goat gully and dropping down to Graveyard gully.
The 19 W2 walkers went down the river ,the group splitting in half. Half climbed up goat Gully and half went down the river some more, before looping back
The W3s followed down the river , having enough sense to turn back before Goat Gully.
Afternoon tea was held in Lookout drive in Jo Joes basement after a quick cleanout in the morning. The dog managed to get a few harriers to play fetch the ball with her.
This Saturday we will attempt to get to Merino Ridges again , so please meet 12 midday ,corner Walton & Thompson streets to catch the bus , with A-Ls duty pack this week.
No photos sent in last week , but with some big Sarsen stones at Merino Ridges , I am sure there will be photos aplenty next week.
Weather god is trying to delay next rain front till Sunday. So hope to see you in the sunshine on Saturday
