Big day out: Cairnmuir Range

This Saturday we return to the Ida Valley, the southern end of the valley just north of the Poolburn Dam Road. Please meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 12 midday to catch the bus out to Ida Valley Station Shennan’s track with A-Ls duty pack this week.

Last Saturday was another fine blue sky winters day. I didn’t come along as I wanted to keep a virus all to myself , no sharing with anybody else. What a selfish sod I am.
Due to a lack of reports sent in to me , I may have used AI to guess what may have happened on the harrier outing. Or just made it up.(As usual )

About 18 walkers met up at 9am for the 21 km walk along the top of Cairnmuir range. They were car pooled to the top of the hill, at the start of the track above the Clyde lookout. The fog was still clearing from Clyde down below. Interesting photo sent in ,did president Mike get into trouble and end up being crucified for his troubles. Or did they stop for a Karaoke break and he belted out “Wichita Lineman”
Blue skies indicate a good day for a walk

The remaining W2 and W3 walkers took the bus at 12:30 to Cornish Point to await the long walkers. To fill in the time , the W3s wandered along the Lake Dunstan trail. The W2s headed up the track towards the long walkers , before detouring to take in the Brewery Creek Terraces

The curling season has come to an end , with the harrier team ending on a winning streak ,winning their last 4 games. Well done team.

In case you were wondering about the club’s new constitution, this is nearing completion. It is quite bureaucratic to fulfill the government’s new requirements ,having to introduce sections on dispute management and membership. Paying a sub will no longer be enough to say you are a member .Once adopted we will need to fill in a form to say you wish to be a member ,then the committee will need to accept your membership .
So we will go from about a 6 page constitution to a 20 page document. We hope to get the new constitution finalised next month and present it to club members before the start of the 2026 Harrier season.

This Saturday we venture out to Ida Valley Station just north of the Poolburn Dam road. A-Ls duty pack this week. It may pay to bring a jacket as long range forecast suggests rain or showers from Thursday till Tuesday. I don’t think we will get 6 days of the wet stuff, but probably a good idea to throw on a jacket, bring a brolly and wear boots rather than shoes.
Hopefully the weather plays ball , permission has been granted to walk there so hopefully will see you there.
