This Saturday the Alex Harriers are much closer to home , with a walk along the business persons track , on the Alex side of the Clutha river between Clyde and Alexandra. The W1s will meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 12 midday, and walk up the Business persons track by the river to Miners Lane in Clyde.
The remaining walkers will meet at 1:00pm , and will car pool out to Miners Lane. The W2s will head down river and loop back up at the hospital.
The W3s will do a local Clyde walk. M-Zs duty pack.
This past Saturday ,the harriers finally made it out to Klifden Station in the Ida Valley. The dozen or so W1 walkers, made a beeline for the top of Blackstone hill so they could overlook both the Ida Valley and the Manuherikia valleys. Although a little birdie did mention that our club president was keen to get a photo on the rock, in bare feet , for the benefit of a work mate.
There were 21 W2 walkers who started off following the W1 walkers, having to walk past a number of “how now brown cows “
There were a number of gentlemen in this group , saying women and children first ,off you go ” . Once it proved safe to carry on ,the gentlemen followed.
When it came to heading off up hill, there was a small mutiny, with several declaring they were going to head back along the water race.
After about 1km of heading up hill , the remainder could see about another kilometre of going up hill , then crossing a gorge to head back to the bus.
Consensus was we should probably try to catch those mutineers ,so headed back down hill.
The W3s followed the W2 walkers , but having a bit more sense followed water race round , then on to the farm tracks to loop back to the bus.
The W2s and W3s enjoyed afternoon tea, whilst awaiting the return of the W1s ½ hour late .Lucky for them it was a sunny day ,
so we were still milling around and not packed up and waiting on the bus.
Could be some birthday cake around as rumour has it Maurice celebrated another birthday this week.
The committee is still working on our new constitution , having to meet all the new requirements. The latest changes will be revised over the next month, then will be sent out to members in September. Followed by a SGM to pass the new constitution ,before the end of the season.
It is the business persons track between Clyde and Alexandra this Saturday. To change things up , the W1s will go from Alex to Clyde at midday.
The rest of us will carpool out to Miners Lane and walk from there at 1pm , leaving enough spare seats to give the W1 walkers a ride home.
The weather should still be fine ,ok in the sunshine , but still a bit crispy in the shade.
Hope to see you there
