This Saturday the harriers head to Auripo road and the Poolburn Gorge. Meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 12 noon to catch a ride on the bus , with A-Ls duty pack this week.
Opening day on Saturday saw around 40 keen walkers and one runner still fit enough to run, turn up at Centennial Park for a local outing.
With about 15 members each in the W1s and W2 walking groups ,they headed over the Shaky bridge and down to Graveyard Gully.
The W1s headed up into the hills , but when Peter suggested they go up yet another hill , after just dropping down from one , there was a small mutiny as some decided carrying on down back to the billy and afternoon tea ,was a much more sensible option.
Meantime the W2 s headed downstream towards Doctor’s point until they got to Goat Gully ,where the group split in two, half heading up the gully to rejoin Graveyard gully road back down the hill. The other half kept going down river towards Butchers creek , before heading back the way they had come.
A slightly smaller group of W3 walkers kept to some more flat country
I have attached a copy of the 2025 Harrier programme , for those of you who missed out on a printed copy on Saturday.
If you would like to share photos of harrier outings , they can be emailed to photos@alexharriers.co.nz
Subscriptions can be paid now ,info on programme . Treasurer prefers internet banking to Westpac 03 1733 0004935 00 Alexandra Harrier & Walkers Club
Add your name and sub as a reference.. Club president Mike has led the way ,already has paid his sub $40 on opening day.
Remember also ,weekly raffle / outing fee of $5 for members and $10 for visitors , is an important part of covering club costs.
The raffle cost was $2 for the last 30 plus years , and helped to cover bus hire costs. But the previous 2or 3 years saw the club not covering costs ,having to use reserves to cover the shortfall. Last year the committee decided to increase raffle outing fee to $5 and in the last financial year we managed to cover club costs once again. Please pay Barrie cash on the day , or you can pay be internet banking, either weekly ,or pay lump sums to cover several weeks or months at a time.
This week we head for Auripo road ,most groups venturing into the tunnels ,so if you haven’t been eating your carrots , you may like to bring a torch along to find your way.
Another sunny day has been booked for Saturday ,so hope to see you all there.
