Saturday was a grey old day ,not as bad as the weather forecast would have us believe , but grey enough to keep many at home in front of the fire or heater. Regardless , there were still some mad keen walkers determined to walk out from Olrig to Ophir , with slippery muddy conditions underfoot at times.
There were about another half dozen who jumped on their mountain bikes, finding it hard going in the muddy conditions. This forced them to stop for a pick me up at the Muddy Creek café , before returning along the rail trail to Olrig. Well done to Brian who went the whole way on his bike, with no E power assistance like the others.
Meantime the bus dropped a half dozen or so W3 walkers off at the Chatto Creek pub. They obviously didn’t stop at the pub and so were back along the rail trail to Olrig in very good time. The W2 walkers carried on the bus to Tiger Hill for an 11 km walk along the trail. They encountered a mob of wild pigs ,who didn’t hang around for a photo shoot.
The bus was a bit late returning to Olrig . One of our members had a medical event there, an ambulance was called, and sent to Dunstan Hospital. Reports that all ok now which was good news. So, limited afternoon tea until the bus got there, but plenty of hot water this year. Probably good time to remind you all again. In the black bin in the harrier trailer is an address book. If you have not already done so ,write your name in this book and your ICE In Case of Emergency contact info That is the name of a contact person and a cellphone number to call if something happens to you.
This Saturday we have a 16 members walking into Mt Aspiring for an overnight stay, which will likely leave a smaller group for a harrier outing this week. So we have changed the venue to McArthurs farm heading up to the old sheep yards. So please meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 1:00pm to car pool out with A-Ls duty pack this week. Weatherman suggesting possible showers for Saturday , will have to see if local weather god can improve things for us.
Hope to see you there
