Hi all
This week we are off to Merino Ridges in the Ida Valley for the last bus trip of the year!
Meet at the corner of Thompson, Rivers and Walton Streets at 12 noon to bus out to the Ida Valley.
Duty Pack – A-L
Weather forecast was looking awful but now much improved.
Walkers 1 — 7.7km 240m climb, Walkers 2 — 5.7 km 130m climb. Walkers 3 — out and back route as far as they want to go.
The farmer has approved the routes so please don’t go straying into other paddocks with map in pocket. There will be a number of gates, so please leave all gates as you find them.
If anyone wants to be able to use the electronic map, which will work on any smart phone with the right App installed, contact Joe. 0275 343 513.
Last Saturday was at Galloway, at the end of the Manorburn ford. The club went back to their traditional ways with the W1’s 30 minutes late for their cuppa! The club captain had mapped out the routes with electronic maps provided to a couple of the walkers, but the 18 or so W1s followed the Old Coach road, missed the turn and walked an extra 3km. Turns out if you leave your phone in your pack, the electronic map doesnt help! We thought about complaining to the club president, but since he was the pack leader that didn’t get us very far.
The 14-odd W2’s (a good bakers dozen) were ably led by Joe down the rail trail (no one took up the shortcut through the ford at Manorburn Creek option) and up old Coach Road to the middle gate before returning via the Lower Manorburn Dam in good time for afternoon tea.
The W3s split into two groups with some going north and some going south along the rail trail; like the W2s they were back in good time for afternoon tea.
It might pay to bring a jacket, or an umbrella, this Saturday – just in case people haven’t been praying hard enough for good weather this week!
You may or may not see me there on Saturday depending on what the weather is like in Alex before noon!
Gary
PS Since the W3s haven’t sent any photos in this week, I have included one from the previous week at Chatto Creek!
