Hi all
Conditions were wet and slippery underfoot on Saturday at the airport but at least we could see where we were walking! It would have been a lot more difficult for the orienteers racing up that evening! 18 harriers were mad enough to go out in the light rain – just wet enough to make you damp! The 3 W3 walking beside the tracks around the airport as the tracks were too slippery to walk on. And the W1s and W2s combined for a walk all around the airport tracks but reported it was a good walk. There were no complaints about afternoon tea – the water was hot and there was plenty of afternoon tea!
About 30-odd turned up a couple of hours later to be fed at the Senior Citizens enjoying a lovely homecooked meal. Joe Stevens sang about his Old Man the dustman, ably accompanied by Barbara and Bernie. To prove the grey cells were still working, there was also a quiz to test everyone’s general knowledge – question setters were not allowed to join in! 6 teams competed for a chocolate prize – each team got to choose the subject for a round where they could double their points. The Walkie Talkies scored 32 out of a possible 35. Second highest scorers were the Riesling Stars who claimed they had 39 out of 35 – mathematics obviously not their specialist subject. All the teams were pretty close with PJJB third with 29 points.
As we mentioned last week, we are getting towards the end of June and changing our email distribution list to financial members only in accordance with the new constitution. Thanks to all who have already responded to go on the newsletter-only distribution list; if you want to go on this list and haven’t let Jill know email her asap (scottweekly@gmail.com).
This week we will be carpooling out from the normal place (corner of Walton, River and Thompson Streets. Alexandra) at 1pm to go to Miners Lane in Clyde. The walk is down the Clutha/Mata-au River towards Muttontown.
All four legged friends are welcome to come along for the walk as long as they can behave themselves and are kept under control.
Duty pack – M-Z for the humans. Dog afternoon tea is at the discretion of dog owners.
The weather gods are predicting similar weather to last week ie low cloud with single digits so if you can bring along some sun with you, that will be appreciated.
Hope to see you Saturday!
Gary
PS there are no photos this week so remember to send your photos in – I was hoping for a foggy day still now so that I could say that I took it at the airport on Saturday!
