This week you all can take a break for the Alexandra Blossom Festival, as no walk has been planned. If you have really itchy feet and have a need for speed , on Friday evening you can go to the usual meeting place and go up to the clock and back. By the way , it is a race around the clock
Saturday saw another good turnout in the mid 40s , with each group having about 10 walkers , except for the W4s , who remain a very select small group.
It turned out Conroys Dam was very full , but the car park area was nowhere as muddy or slippery as expected.
Allen Hansen led a group out in the morning , to head on up to Castle Rock and return back to the dam. Our retired farmers got to use their old skills rounding the troops up around some cattle. And were seeing sheep’s head in the rocks.
The remaining groups came out to the dam just after 1pm. The W1s and W3s headed up stream to the Chinese miner’s hut ,across the creek to the Old Hotel and back down past the lizard sanctuary and return. It was wet feet for most in the W1s as the wooden bridge had been washed away from it’s footing.
As they were discussing whether or not the bridge could be moved back across the creek or not (sometimes committees talk but don’t achieve anything ), the W3 walkers arrived. The dumb ox walked into the creek and pushed the bridge across to the other side , when he got some help from the W1s to lift it back onto dry land, saving the rest of the W3s from getting wet feet.
Meantime the W2s decided to cross the dam wall and go round the left side of the dam and on up towards the lizard sanctuary before returning. The W4s kept to the lower elevations around the dam.
The 2024 harrier season is fast coming to a close , just 3 walks left.
